A new edition of ARCO is kicking off in celebration of its 30th anniversary. It will take place
from the 16th to 20th of February at IFEMA. This year, ARCO is bringing together 190 galleries,
and numerous changes will be introduced, including a reduction in the number of participating
galleries with the goal of offering a more compact range in line with today’s needs.
This year’s edition will feature the presence of eight Russian galleries as part of the FOCUS
RUSSIA programme. Another of the major new developments this year is the Opening: Young
European Galleries programme, which will contain a selection of 20 galleries at least eight years
old headquartered in some European country. The galleries were chosen by Maribel López,
independent curator and gallery owner. The programmewill showcase the multidimensionality of
contemporary creation in Europe. Likewise, another new development will be the SOLO PROJECTS:
Focus Latin America programme sponsored by AECID (Spanish International Development
Cooperation Agency), which will have the help of Luisa Duarte, independent curator from Brazil;
Daniela Pérez, associate curator at the Tamayo Museum of Mexico; and Julieta González, associate
curator of Latin American art at the Tate in London, to choose the galleries, artists and proposals.
This programme will be aimed at Ibero-American artists, while it also makes room for other
consolidated artists who have had an influence over Latin American creators.
