MADRIDFOTO 2011 (3rd edition) is taking shape as the only international fair in our country specialising in con- temporary photography targeted at private, corporate and institutional co- llectors. The fair will be held from the 5th to 8th of May 2011. This time, due to the rise in the number of participating galleries, MADRIDFO- TO will return to the Feria de Madrid (Ifema) trade fair grounds, where Pavilion 1 will offer a more spacious venue. The Ifema infrastructures also ensure better comfort for both visitors and professionals. The exhibitors at the fair will include 60 galleries, seven publis- hing houses and five magazines.
To promote MADRIDFOTO3, the organisers have recruited three famous ambassadors: Timothy Persons (TAIK Gallery in Finland), Baudoin Lebon (Galerie Baudoin Lebon in Paris) and Pilar Citoler (collector and patron of the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid). MADRIDFOTO is targeted at new photography collectors and is acco panied by a series of activities aimed at spotlighting photography as an art and encouraging its expansion in the market.
In its last edition, MADRIDFOTO welco- med more than 15,000 visitors. It also hosted 25 foreign exhibitors (USA, Uni- ted Kingdom, Portugal, Italy, Luxem- bourg, France, Germany, Holland, Den- mark, Canada and Mexico), in addition to 22 Madrid galleries, eight Catalan galleries and twelve galleries from the rest of Spain. Following in the foots- teps of the 2010 initiative, MADRIDFO- TO 2011 will also host talks, gatherings and other actions so that curators, pro- grammers and museum directors can participate actively in the event. MADRIDFOTO 2011 is being organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid Town Hall, as well as partner companies interested in auteur photography.
In addition to the collectors’ programme, MADRIDFOTO 2011 has also guaranteed the commitment to purchase of Madrid institutions and companies and plans to sponsor two prizes to award two different facets: sustainability (Action - MADRIDFOTO Prize) and young photographers (Community of Madrid – MADRIDFOTO Prize). As is customary, MADRIDFOTO 2011 will also design an exclusive programme for collectors featuring activities, guided tours and social events, as well as a VIP area inside the fair where they can meet and exchange ideas. Since it was launched, MADRIDFOTO has enjoyed the sponsor ship of numerous companies and institutions, which are joined by the efforts of professionals like Sofía Barroso (Around Art), Carral Asociados, Andrés Jaque (ar- chitect) and Celda y Asociados.•
