This exhibition is being held as part of the Dual Year of Russia-Spain 2011 as part of the agreement signed by the Prado Museum, the State Hermitage Museum and the State Society of Cultural Action to materialise an unprecedented exchange of collections between both institutions. This exchange will enable each museum to host a large representative sample of the variety, quality and breadth of the other’s collections.
While The Prado at the Hermitage will present a series of 66 pain- tings Treasures of the Hermitage (8th November 2011- 26th March 2012) will allow the Spanish public to view 170 works from the Rus- sian museum that will prove the variety and artistic and chronological breadth of its collections, which span from the 5th century BC to the 20th century. •
